Meeting with the Dean – David McDonald

In response to David McDonald violating the university’s Expressive Activity Policy (UA10), he was called into a meeting with Rick Van Kooten, Executive Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. It seemed obvious to McDonald that Van Kooten was not in favor of the policy and was more or less an ally. But, in his position, he had to enforce the existing policy until it was changed—further violation of it by McDonald could lead to serious consequences, including termination of his appointment at IU. UA10, however, is not in accord with standing faculty grievance review policy that provides due process for faculty being reprimanded or sanctioned.
