Vigil 9/15 2024 Expressive Activity


Candlelight Vigil at Sample Gates at which past and present student and faculty are threatened with sanctions- with harsher language used with a nonunion staff member for challenging the constitutionality of IU 10 Expressive Activity Policy. Comparisons are made between IU’s policies to the actions of authoritarian regimes around the world. The absurdity of IU’s policies having more severe sanctions than state laws banning public nudity.

Episode begins with speech by anti-war activist Unitarian Universalist minister Bill Breeden on what a university should be, followed by former student body president and IU Law School challenging the IU administration to arrest and prosecute him so he can question IU President in court on her anti-constitutional speech policy, WFIU staff member Heather Cogge being threatened of being fired for involvement in the 9/8 /2025 vigil, Deborah Cohen compares IU’s “overbroad’ and “overreach” expressive activity policy to actions of authoritarian regimes, Ben Robinson on how IU has to suppress all types of political speech to avoid being accused of singling out pro-Palestinian activity, Heather Akou points out absurdity of IU’s law having more severe sanctions for political expression than for public nudity.
